Retained Life Estate

Why a client might want to consider this:

I have been thinking about your estate plan and your IRA is taxed at the highest tax rates if you pull from it, but it will also be highly taxed if you leave it to your children. Assuming your children will not be moving into your house when you pass away, I think I have a solution to give your children the cash instead of your home and convert part of your IRA to a Roth IRA to save in taxes.  It’s called a Retained Life Estate.  This would be donating your home to charity when you pass away which would give you a large tax write off that we can use to convert your IRA to a Roth.  You still get to live in home the rest of your life and if you sell the home it would transfer to the new house.  I think it would be worth looking into further. Let’s set a time to talk this through.
